I am a firm believer in AVOIDING pesticides. I know they have a place and when we lived in Idaho the only thing that kept the hobo spiders away was the home defense. At the same time I planted some cone flowers and daddy long legs love those plants, come to find out. The more daddy long legs the less hobos in the house. I knew that as soon as it was dry it was safe so normally we would spray at night while the little ones were asleep and couldn't accidentally get into it.
With my garden I don't like pesticides. I don't want an animal climbing through it or rubbing against something and then ingesting it. Luckily my Garden is in the green house but I have been successful in avoiding pesticides so far.
And just look at this beautiful garden! I haven't had to weed or anything. All I do is water it.
This morning when I went out I notice some ants have found my warm wonderland and it looks like maybe a slug has found some enjoyment on my zucchini plant and broccoli. I have done some reading and one way to keep the pesky slugs away is to lay seaweed around the plants. You don't want it to touch the plants because it is slightly salty and you don't want your plants having salt on them. It's not good for them. Luckily I have an abundance of seaweed living on the ocean. Even better it's FREE! So I will be at the ocean today picking up some seaweed. Other things you can do is take your eggshells and crumble them and make a ring around your plants. This makes the ground rough and the slugs don't want to pass. We shall see if it works.
Look at how green everything is. I can't wait till everything has buds on it and we can't start eating some of our delicious homegrown vegetables. The broccoli has already started coming up. Yum!!!!!!!
