I have to say that for me Rhody Days is all about fitness and being active. There's so much going on all over town. This year we enjoyed ourselves and wore ourselves out. It was supposed to rain but ended up being a gorgeous day.
We started the weekend festivities with a nice run. My dad came over and ran the 5k with Jaden. He really pushed Jaden and he did amazing for and 8 year old boy. I believe there were 18 in his age group.
Tyson and I ran the 10k. Tyson ran amazing. I am still slow and whimsy but I will get there someday again I hope. I will say that I started slowing down which was frustrating but I was able to keep my average mile pave under 9:30 for the first 4 miles. I haven't been running that fast for a really long time. So I know I can get faster it's just getting it out of me.
I was able to run with some awesome friends. Well, I started with them and then ended not far behind them. That's all I have to say about that.
We continued the day watching the fun little junior parade.
we needed a small rest so we just watched.
After the junior parade they do games in the high school baseball field. The kids love it and they get little prizes and snacks. The favorite was probably the crab walk. It was the funnest one for me to watch. I love that they have activities just for kids and they are away from all the other activities. The community is really good at using the whole town for there festivities.
Potato sack race. That one was funny because Natalia was the smallest so when everyone had turned around and they were coming back she was only half way and turned around so she wasn't left behind.
The crab walk. Jaden had to race the local friend. I am pretty sure she one this one.
By now I was hungry. I had only had some toast and gatorade before the race. My homemade protein bars were a fail in my book. I like my good old fashioned chewy chocolate bar. Maybe I would have run better if I hadn't changed up my traditional routine. Well I learned my lesson.
Anyway, we drove to old town and then walked several blocks from our parking spot a mile away and ate at good old Mo's. I will admit that I had a hamburger from a seafood restaurant with french fries but it was yummy. It is the best restaurant to take kids because they just stare out at the water the whole time.
This girl was so cute. She loved her french fries with ranch. More the ranch.
Natalia looking at the water and the birds outside.
Had to walk out onto the docks to see the cool pirate ship.
I am pretty sure I was the only one excited about the boat. The kids said "cool" and then started searching for crabs. The boat is still here in Florence. I highly recommend seeing it. It's amazing. The guy built it himself and it's all wood. They had to lift the bridge to get it in.
We finished the day with the car show. The kids liked some of the cars and my dad apparently only likes Chevy's. I like looking at them but that's about it. I like Model T's I think they are so much fun. I did find Grandpas Truck though.
Later that evening it was time to relax. We went to Miller Park with some friends and had a picnic and played some soccer. I just sat on the blanket and ate some yummy cantaloupe.
The local Librarian saying hello to all her fellow friends. She does the best story times. Can you tell?
So like I said It's all about being active. You walk all over town. Get some yummy food to refuel (not to much though) and enjoy family all at the same time.
